Be Prepared

Prepare

Prepare yourself! When it comes to damage, disasters do not discriminate. Whole communities are affected, and since disaster can occur at any time, it is important to be prepared for any kind of disaster by joining your community in emergency readiness.

Create and practice your plan.

Communication is the most important aspect of any emergency preparedness plan. Develop an evacuation and shelter-in-place plan as well as a way to communicate with your family before, during and after an emergency situation. Compile an emergency supply kit and make sure your family is informed and practiced in your emergency plan. Sign up to receive alerts and warnings for your area, and download other necessary apps to stay informed, like the FEMA app.

Learn life-saving skills.

One or more people in your household should be able to perform life-saving emergency tasks if necessary. These skills include CPR, turning off natural gas, taking cover during a tornado and more. Learning these life-saving skills could mean life or death in an emergency for you, your family or your neighbors.
